What is the accuracy of Yahoo's travel distances?
maps.yahoo.com suggested a route between my home in La Mesa, CA and my chiropractor's office in Encinitas, CA; the driving distance shown was 30.39 miles. I drove the route exactly as stipulated and the actual mileage shown on my odometer was 30.5 miles. What is more interesting is that following the same exact route back to my residence, my odometer showed that the return trip was 31 miles. So how accurate is Yahoo's driving distances? My insurance company wants to know also.

Has anyone been to the Scrapbook Expo in Costa Mesa, CA?
I'm not from the area and would travel and looking to purchase the Cricut and wanted to see if it's worth it to attend. Of course I would buy other items there, but I want to see if it's actually worth the drive to save the money?

It totally is! I was there and it was totally the drive!
Answer 2 :
Money is one of the least vital features of life... Quit asking this type of questions!
Answer 3 :
I don't think you would save any money on the Circut at the expo. They really do not have discounted prices. You are better off waiting for a sale on it at JoAnn fabrics or Michael's. Wal Mart has a good price on it. I have been to lots of scrapbooking conventions. Including this one (in the Chicago area) There are lots of products and lots of new things, but the price are not always the best. You really have to know the pricing of scrapbook supplies to know if you are getting a deal at a convention. I have often seen things cheaper at stores at home.

Answer 2 :
we usually have good weather until christmas. it's been a little cold here at night, and early morning. bring a sweat shirt, or light to medium weight jacket just in case. no bad areas to avoid any where near newport beach, or costa mesa. pools are usually heated, the ocean is always freezing, but on a hot day it is welcoming. ask the front desk clerks about tours, boat tours to catalina island, theme parks, and other attractions. enjoy, and in advance, welcome to southern california. you're going to love it here.

Wednesday and Thursday was in the 90's. Today, Friday, it was in the 60's. So its anybody's guess.

Answer 1 :
386 miles as the crow flies. A plan for a trip can be found on Google/maps
Answer 2 :
The US train is called Amtrak. Go to Amtrak.com You can take a train from San Francisco to Irvine or Santa Ana, and then probably local bus or taxi service to your final destination in Costa Mesa. The train trip is 10.5 hours. It would cost about $60 US. If you could rent a car and drive, it would take about 6.5 hours. The cost of fuel alone would be $30-50 US. There are lots of car rental companies. Avis, Hertz, and Enterprise are the biggest companies. Greyhound is the US bus service. Go to Greyhound.com You can take a bus from San Francisco to Santa Ana. There are about 6 buses on that route on a week day. Depending on which time you leave, it would take between 10 and 11.5 hours and cost $44 US. You could also fly from San Francisco (SFO) to John Wayne/Orange County (SNA) in about 90 minutes flight time for about $250 to $300.

About What is the difference between a MESA and a Butte
What is the difference between a MESA and a Butte?
Both are geographicl formations that look like worn down mountains. i saw many of each travelling through New Mexico and Arizona. I need to know thw differences between the two-- what characteristics apply to the formations.

Answer 1 :
A butte is steep on all sides. A mesa can have a gentle slope onto one or more sides it and also has a larger flat top. A mesa is a kind of a peninsula, while a butte is more of an island.
Answer 2 :
As a Phoenix native - I'd suggest that - a butte is an isolated pillar, as you might see in Monument Valley. A mesa tends to be a large elevated plateau.
Answer 3 :
Flat top! They are both protrusions, but a mesa has to have a flat top, and a butte can have a variety of shapes. If you look up the definition of a butte, you may find information that it must be flat-topped as well. However, many buttes that are named do not follow this rule (e.g. Sutter Buttes, CA; Red Butte, UT).
Answer 4 :
That question is a Beaut! I wouldn't even mesa round wid it. Even the experts are not very clear in the link.
Answer 5 :
Most mesa are an upheavel and leveling of tetonic rock. Most buttes are old volcano cores.
Answer 6 :
The difference between a mesa and a butte is a matter of size and scale with a mesa being bigger than a butte although there is no precise definition of when exactly a butte becomes a mesa. Sort of like a river is bigger than a creek even though there is no precise definition of when a creek becomes a river. Both mesas and buttes are defined by having flat tops and steep sides. Most technical sources will also say that they must be capped on top with a resistant rock layer (which is usually what causes mesas and buttes to form with a flat top). A few sources will give specific cut-offs between the two based on area (see websites below), but there is no universal agreement (and of course, the people who named the formations got to name them whatever they wanted :) ). Mesa is the Spanish word for 'table' and one non-scientific, but very workable rule-of-thumb that I like is 'if it is too tall and narrow to resemble a table, then it must be a butte'. Works for me. :) In their excellent book, "Pages of Stone: Geology of the Grand Canyon & Plateau Country National Parks & Monuments" geologists Halka and Lucy Chronic describe the progression of landforms as this: plateaus (the largest) erode into mesas, mesas erode into buttes, and buttes erode into spires (the smallest).

Poll: What was your worst travel experience?
What was your worst travel experience? Mine was on a flight from Houston to Costa Mesa. I was stuck in the middle seat between two (larger) men who confiscated both armrests, and I had to sit with my arms crossed the entire flight. To make matters worse, the guy next to me (the one w/the window seat), sneezed the ENTIRE time...all over me. I would have paid (and tried to) to trade seats with somebody. It was terrible!!! And yes, I got sick on my vacation because of my seatmate.

mine was a few summers ago when my parents, my aunt, uncle, cousin, and i were going to canada. we were just getting through the border, and we had pulled over to wait for my uncle, aunt, and cousin to get through so we could start off on the last few miles on our trip. we waited for like a half hour, and when my dad got out to figure out what was going on, it turns out that my cousin's name was "similar to the name of a wanted terrorist". my aunt, uncle, and cousin had to go into the police barracks and be questioned by canadian police and have background checks, their passports were confiscated for further investigation to make sure they weren't fake, and their car was searched top to bottom. we had to wait for like 2 and a half hours. they finally got cleared when the police found out that the terrorist they were looking for was a clear foot taller than my cousin, 100 pounds heavier, and a completely different race & age. needless to say it did not start our vacation well. on the other hand, we make jokes about the experience at every. single. family party. haha.

How to travel cheap from Missouri to Arizona?
I am 19 and live in Springfield Missouri. I want to go out to Tucson, Arizona and see my grandparents. Problem is I can't road-trip out there, I'm too young to rent a car, and the cheapest airline (allegiant) flies into Mesa airport but there are no shuttles to take me to Tucson. I need the cheapest and easiest way to get out there. Any ideas please?

Answer 1 :
You can take Greyhound Bus. From Missouri to Arizona will cost you $161 for non-refundable ticket each way. If you want the ticket refundable, it will cost you $206 each way. You need to transfer bus 4 times before you reach Arizona.
Answer 2 :
Grayhound would be the next option... your grandparents won't drive up to pick you up. The Mesa airport isn't isn't in that busy of a place that they should be stressed out about... they should pick you up, ask them! A taxi fare would be outrageous., but it may be your only option. Other than that, your out of luck I believe.

Answer 1 :
If you want a route by car: take I-17 North, all of the way to Flagstaff. To get back to Camp Verde from Flag, go South on I-17 to Camp Verde. (If you need to get to Sedona, Prescott, or Cottonwood -- you would need to use Hwy 89 and / or 260.) From Camp Verde to Mesa, use I-17 South to the 101 South. From there, it depends on which part of Mesa you are going to. For Northwest Mesa, take 101 South to the 51 South to the 202 East. For North-Central Mesa take 101 South to your destination or 101 South to I-10. For South or East Mesa, take 101 South to I-60.
Answer 2 :
Flagstaff to Camp Verde: Take I-17 south to exit 285, go south/east on AZ 260 about 2 miles to get to Camp Verde. The highway signs will probably provide that information for you. Camp Verde to Mesa: Get back on I-17 south towards Phoenix. Once in the Phoenix metro area, stay on I-17 south until it ends around the second junction with I-10. By that time, it's also called the Maricopa Freeway and also runs with US 60. US 60 splits off from I-10 at exit 154 and goes due east, becoming the Superstition Freeway. Past exit 176 on US 60, you're essentially in Mesa.
